Yo David, I totally agree with you on that. If it’s a matter of sample clearance than the artists may not have a choice but to delay. Btw, I didn’t write this article (it’s from another site). In terms of Drake, the author is referring to Drake’s first album Thank Me Later album released in 2010. Just to clarify.

Well I do agree with the big picture but I think in some cases the release date is set due to various reasons. For example, you mentioned how if drake had released his album 2~3 weeks in advance, it would have sold much better. However, he was planning on releasing it a bit earlier 9on his birthday) but 3 samples he wanted to use wasnt cleared so he had to push it back. Sometimes the release dates are out of the artist's hands.
